About the reserve

Barrancas Negras is a conservation area that protects a unique combination of riparian forests, wetlands and natural grasslands on sandy soils. This ecosystem is home to the endemic Río Negro tuco-tuco (Ctenomys rionegrensis), a subterranean rodent with a very restricted distribution. The native gallery forests, together with the grassland and wetland environments, create a mosaic of habitats that supports rich biodiversity in a region characterised by forestry production.
